2008-9 APMC Field Trips APMC Field Trips happen monthly to provide member-moms and their kids an opportunity to get out and about, explore Austin’s kid-friendly places, and learn something along the way! Plus, it’s a great chance to meet moms and kids from playgroups outside your own and, well, one less outing YOU have to plan! The days and times vary, to try to include kids of different ages and schedules, so we hope you can join us for one, two or ALL of them! October See you soon! November We will be painting ceramic pieces—you can choose something for you to keep or a holiday gift! The cost will be determined by the piece you choose—they have everything from dinner plates, piggy banks, picture frames as well as seasonal items like ornaments. According to their website they have over 400 items to choose from and the pieces start at $6. There will be no studio fees or fees for them glazing and firing your item. APMC has rented their party room for the hour and a half so come join us and see what masterpiece your little artist can create! Please reply to me directly [carmen@austinmothers.org] and let me know if you plan on joining us. Let me know who you will be bringing along with their ages and if you know what you would like to paint, that would be helpful. I will be going there next week to give them an idea of what pieces they need to have ready for us and to pick the paints we will use. I just need to know more or less how many ornaments, plates, mugs, etc. We would not want to get there and we all choose round/ball ornaments and find that they don't have enough of them in stock (this is what we like to paint for our Christmas tree). If there is something specific you are thinking of, you can call them and ask if they offer it, how much it is and then let me know that is what you will be painting (like a large piggy bank or turkey platter for example). December January I have picked the Little Red Riding Hood theme from their Fairy Tale Fiesta Menu and we will be making Zucchini Muffins (sounds like the perfect way to sneak zucchini's into the children). We will be reading the Little Red Riding Hood story, maybe doing a related activity and then cooking. This is an all ages Field Trip - if you think your child would enjoy some pouring, mixing and eating fun then we would love to have you! This is the perfect way to "sample" a class and see if your child might be ready for cooking school! We will be meeting at the South Location of the Young Chef's Academy but they do also have a Round Rock location for anyone interested in signing up for actual classes after our Field Trip. The cost will depend on the number of participants. If we have between 8 and 10 children, we will each pay $15, if we have more than 11 children, we will each pay $10. Please RSVP to me at your earliest convenience and I will send another email as soon as we have more than 11 children. Info from their website: At Young Chefs® Academy, we take the fear, mystery and the unknown out of cooking. In addition, each class and event incorporates supplemental subject matter which ties into each theme. Our staff of highly qualified teachers, chefs and nutritional experts carry out our mission to provide an interactive learning experience that gives children the opportunity to develop a life-long love for the culinary arts. DETAILS: February During the demonstration time, Sportball will show you their unique, creative approach to teaching sports to kids. The popular educationally based non-competitive program, geared to kids from 15 months to eight years old, has classes that run throughout Austin. Sportball focuses on developing kids' gross motor skills through sport. We focus on eight different sports—soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, football, golf, and hockey. The Sportball program provides youngsters with a chance to learn fundamental sports skills in a non-competitive environment with boys and girls their own age. Sportball sessions incorporate a proven curriculum structure with expert individual instruction. The goal of the program is to help youngsters develop both physically and mentally; improving balance, strength, co-ordination, stamina and timing as well as concentration, listening skills, co-operation and self-confidence.
