Playgroups APMC playgroups are a fantastic way to meet other mothers and kids here in Austin. We offer playgroups based on the year your child was born – and thus add new ones each year! – but invite members to join whatever playgroup(s) best “click” for both moms and kiddos! We currently have playgroups for the following birth years:
Most playgroups meet weekly, many throughout the summer, too! Playgroups meet at members homes, local parks and other fun locales, depending on the age and developmental stage of the kids in the group – sleepers, sitters, crawlers, walkers, runners, adventurers – as well as the interests and preferences of the moms in the group. Playgroup coordinators for each year/group serve as a communication and planning hub for the group, keeping members up to date and surveying moms (and kids!) for ideas on playgroup formats and destinations. The APMC is also developing a brief Guide for Playgroup Hosts so moms hosting have an idea what to expect…coming soon! The APMC Playgroup Coordinator, Kathie Tam at Kathie@austinmothers.org, serves as an initial point of contact for mom-kid combos interested in visiting a playgroup or finding out more about our playgroups before joining the club. APMC playgroups alone are a great reason to join APMC! Life-long friendships for both moms and their kids have formed here…and new connections start every day. Contact Kathie to find out more or to set up a playgroup visit! Kids born in 2007 & 2008 The Munchkins These babies and early toddlers are wee ones, but quickly become wise. They are soon up and about, and want to explore everything and everywhere possible. And just as you’re getting used to one phase, they’re on to another. Our playgroups will depend largely on rotating among member hosts, since homes provide a safe and fun area to play…and for moms to chat! But it’s never too early to explore new destinations around town, so we’ll also head to some little one-friendly spots. Kids born in 2006 Busy Bees They are up and walking and running and….they’re everywhere! These kids are gaining skills in language, climbing, sharing (well, sometimes) and completing other amazing feats every day, and they’re up for a new adventure. Playgroups become an important chance to socialize for these kids, and they begin to connect with their playgroup pals. Meet-ups will include home-based playgroups as well as outings around town. Kids born in 2003, 2004 & 2005 The Big Kids! The newly combined 2003-4-5 playgroup is for the “big kids” and frequently heads out to local parks and other kid-friendly destinations for such fun outdoor activities such as ice skating, berry-picking and time on the playscape, to enjoy all Austin has to offer. Many of these kiddos are in part-time preschool programs, and these days many of them share another bond: making room for younger siblings…and their playgroups!
